When it comes to enjoying a quick cup of coffee, convenience is often a top priority. Drip bags, Instant coffee and freeze-dried coffee have long been popular choices for their ease of preparation.
Here's a detailed look at the benefits of each method, rated on a 5-point scale for various criteria.
Criteria | Drip Bags | Instant Coffee | Freeze-Dried Coffee |
---|---|---|---|
Flavor Profile | 5 | 2 | 3 |
Freshness & Quality | 5 | 2 | 3 |
Convenience | 4 | 5 | 5 |
Portability | 5 | 5 | 5 |
Control Over Brewing | 5 | 1 | 1 |
Environmental Impact | 4 | 2 | 3 |
Total Score | 28/30 | 17/30 | 20/30 |
Drip bags emerge as the top choice for those seeking a balance of convenience, quality, and sustainability, offering a superior coffee experience compared to instant and freeze-dried coffee.
Drip Bags: 5/5 Drip bags contain freshly ground coffee, allowing hot water to extract the coffee's full range of flavors, resulting in a richer, more nuanced cup. The slow extraction process enhances the coffee's natural sweetness and acidity.
Instant Coffee: 2/5 Instant coffee often lacks flavor complexity and aroma due to the high-temperature processes used to create it. This results in a more uniform and less vibrant taste.
Freeze-Dried Coffee: 3/5 Freeze-dried coffee retains more flavor than instant coffee due to the low-temperature drying process, but it still cannot match the depth and complexity of drip bag coffee.
Drip Bags: 5/5 Drip bags are packed with freshly ground coffee, maintaining a higher level of freshness. The use of high-quality, specialty-grade beans ensures premium quality.
Instant Coffee: 2/5 Instant coffee often uses lower quality beans and undergoes processes that diminish the coffee's original qualities, leading to a stale taste over time.
Freeze-Dried Coffee: 3/5 Freeze-dried coffee retains more flavor than instant coffee, but the significant processing impacts its freshness and overall quality. The equipment for producing high quality freeze-dried coffee is also not common accessible in Singapore.
This means your freeze-dried coffee could have been mass produced by OEM factories in China and the shipping and production time might impact the freshness of the coffee.
Drip Bags: 4/5 Drip bags are easy to use, requiring no additional equipment beyond a kettle and a cup. They offer a quality cup of coffee with minimal fuss, though slightly more effort than instant coffee.
Instant Coffee: 5/5 Instant coffee is extremely convenient—just add hot water and stir. This simplicity is its greatest advantage for those with busy lifestyles.
Freeze-Dried Coffee: 5/5 Freeze-dried coffee matches instant coffee in convenience, offering a quick preparation method with just hot water and stirring.
Drip Bags: 5/5 Drip bags are highly portable, individually packaged for freshness, and ideal for travel, camping, or office use. Their compact design makes them easy to pack and use anywhere with access to hot water.
Instant Coffee: 5/5 Instant coffee is also highly portable, with single-serve packets that are lightweight and compact. It’s perfect for quick caffeine fixes on the go.
Freeze-Dried Coffee: 5/5 Freeze-dried coffee is equally portable, offering the same single-serve convenience as instant coffee, making it a suitable option for travel and outdoor activities.
Drip Bags: 5/5 Drip bags offer control over the brewing process, allowing adjustments to water temperature and pour rate for a personalized coffee experience. This customization helps achieve optimal flavor extraction.
Instant Coffee: 1/5 Instant coffee offers little to no control over the brewing process. The pre-brewed and pre-measured coffee limits customization and fine-tuning.
Freeze-Dried Coffee: 1/5 Freeze-dried coffee also lacks control over brewing variables, offering the same limitations as instant coffee in terms of customization.
Drip Bags: 4/5 Many drip bags are made with biodegradable materials and the grounds can be composted, reducing waste. Companies are also moving towards sustainable practices and eco-friendly packaging.
Instant Coffee: 2/5 Instant coffee packaging often includes non-recyclable materials, contributing to environmental waste. The production process is energy-intensive, making it less sustainable.
Freeze-Dried Coffee: 3/5 Freeze-dried coffee packaging can also be non-recyclable, though it is generally less wasteful than instant coffee. The freeze-drying process is more energy-efficient than spray drying but still not as eco-friendly as drip bags.

Just left us a
star reviewVery quick response to my question that is accurately and clearly explained. The professionally designed online platform is customer centric and paid attention to details. I hope the coffee I’ll be receiving will be as good if not exceed my expectations. Pretty sure it will. Looking forward to my caffeine fix soon! Yes! Got my coffee earlier than expected. Got my caffeine fixed. Love the taste and can’t ask for more.
Updated review on 18/4: The support team has reached promptly to explain the delayed shipment. Mentioned that my shipment was delayed because I placed an order after their roasting date, which I find the explanation satisfactory. And I received my subscription of coffee yesterday. It tasted great. Excellent service recovery team Yasumi 👌 Earlier review on 14/4: My subscription is due for renewal in 1 day but my earlier order hasn't been received despite placing an order 1 week ago. I don't like to be charged for a renewal product when my earlier product hasn't been shipped out and received. I will consider changing my review when the management looks into this. I have cancelled my earlier subscription.
I ordered a trial size of Brazilian coffee beans, and it arrived the day after roasting along with 60g of Tropic Daydream. Surprisingly, I found that I liked the Tropic Daydream even more! The whole beans were incredibly fresh and fragrant even before grinding. When I tried an espresso with oat milk, it tasted just like a latte from a cafe, but at only half the price and with 100% freshness. Today, experimenting with a coarser grind resulted in a lighter coffee taste. The convenience of the coffee beans subscription is a bonus; I can enjoy different beans every 6 weeks, and refills come directly to my house.
Great coffee and service! Flexible coffee subscriptions and their Coffee Tour lets you try many different types of beans every order
The package of coffee comes with tasting notes and coffee info. The coffee itself smells super good and the brewed coffee I chose is very smooth and less acidic. Perfect!
Completely hooked! One of my joys now is to look forward to my coffee delivery and indulged in that addictive aroma. The coffee bean are roasted to perfection. No any other coffee bean come close.
There customer service was excellent, they were able to resolve the issues the raised regarding my subscription
I stopped buying coffee outside when I can have cafe standard (even better than most cafe) coffee at home. I really enjoy Yasumi coffee, Brazil single origin. Perfectly, freshly roasted, not acidic, and nice aroma😉
Got an extra 60g of coffee in the trial subscription to try out. Can’t wait to try out the different beans!
The subscription service is fuss-free and you can easily change your next delivery date/beans via the website. No need for multiple emails back and forth and efficiency of updating the notice is great.
Love the coffee, always flexible to change the coffee flavour and comes in time!
I do really love the YASUMI Coffee! It brings much much convenient for me, I have an espresso machine at home, so I could make a great cup of coffee everyday. Fresh grind the whole bean, fresh brew the double shot, fresh steam the milk, and then, a fresh cup of specialty coffee. I have order with YASUMI coffee since last year, which Im really happy with the fresh whole bean which deliver to my mail box everytime! and the teams are so cute that everytime will send you an email to inform you that your coffee is going to roast, going to deliver. And the other thing I like YASUMI is becuz they are very flexible which I could skip the slot when I need to travel. Appreciate a lot!
I love the coffee beans roasted by Yasumi coffee. Great taste and quality.
A great coffee subscription service that makes my daily coffee a breeze - particularly love the ability to delay a delivery by a week or two so I can finish my existing beans before new ones arrive!
Coffee smells is good and aromatic. Even though I left it quite long but the coffee smells still lingers l.
Tried the Brazil coffee. Great nutty taste and smell. Received on same day of the roast too. Fast delivery
Great coffee subscription service and very fuss-free. The beans they use are freshly roasted :)
great coffee and service. a little in the expensive end but they deliver in terms of quality
One of my favourite coffee subscription services in Singapore: user-friendly interface, great rewards for continued subscription, and most important of all, I enjoy the beans!
Coffee is freshly roasted and I always receive them very swiftly! Appreciate the friendly and responsive customer support as well :) Very honest, local roasters!
Signed up for the trial and only paid $0.99 for delivery. Received the coffee promptly after a few days in my letterbox. Packaging is SO cute and they even included tasting notes of the coffee beans sent! They even included a sample of another coffee bean for free :') Coffee beans were freshly roasted and smelt amazing when they arrived too :)
We enjoy the latte so much brew with yasumi Colombia bean! After a trial I've decided to keep the subscription and receive the fresh high quality coffee bean regularly.
Tried almost all the different coffee origins available. Loved the Indonesian, Columbian and Ethiopian ones best. Delivery direct to mailbox has been flawless. Online platform for subscription changes and promo codes is very convenient. Started out wanting to get the free trial only but have been continually hooked onto their service!
I ordered a trial subscription. The package came fast and the beans were well packed (despite being unregistered mail). The additional 60g X'mas sample was a nice surprise as it was meant to be a 120g trial and I actually really liked it. Usually do pourover or espresso at home with a hand grinder.
I got a trial subscription, the morning cup, and the French press. Customer service was great, and the package came fast. I tried both Brazil and Tropic Daydream. They were super aromatic and made my day. Looking forward to trying other coffee beans for my next subscription.
The delivery was fast. The beans was freshly roasted and the quality of the beans was good. I also received a free sample bag of coffee which i really appreciated
Subscribed to their weekly coffee beans. Beans are good, and overall a pleasant experience.
I like how Yasumi makes it easy for the customer to make a purchase and understand the product with its user friendly interface and clear product description. it also help that they usually give some discount code to offset next subscribed order / purchase!
I started with the free trial and got hooked! Already tried 3 of 6 of their coffee and 4th one awaiting to be delivered. Beans are well roasted, flavourful and fresh.
The trial pack is of course of great value and the experience of buying from Yasumi is seamless. The "Rwanda" washed coffee is a great filter roast.
Got the light roast, high acidity beans. Well suited to my liking! Can't wait for the next bag! Subscription was fast, love the extra goodies that came along with it like the flavor profile card and the coffee flavor wheel!
Have been a long time fan and subscriber of Yasumi coffee. Took on their subscription plan since I begun my coffee journey at home and never had to look elsewhere. They offer a wide range of flavours and origins, you can also customize your grind size if required. Freshly roasted beans every Tues and delivered to your doorstep. Highly recommended for all coffee enthusiast out there!
I bought their 250ml morning cup a few months ago. It is not worth the price. When it arrived, I could tell the quality wasn’t great. Coffee stains cannot be washed off or removed, and it looks terrible just after 1 month of usage. I’m very disappointed with the product.
Excellent specialty coffee roaster in Singapore at affordable prices. I'm always looking forward to my weekly delivery from Yasumi! The staff here are also really helpful and supportive!
Love the customer service from Yasumi. Have tried Brazil dark roast, Colombia and Nicaragua coffee beans. Enjoyed all 3 roasts very much. Yasumi coffee beans is of great quality. Amazing aromas!
Quick, responsive and helpful customer services. Quality coffee that taste and smells wonderful
Great trial, and they even gave an extra bag of coffee DURING THE FREE TRIAL!
Easy to use subscription website. Initial thoughts on the ethiopia beans for filter was that it was abit roasty, but after some dialing in it was really quite good, the blueberry notes were quite prominent. Coffee came with nice cards.
