We hope you are having an awesome time using your gentle morning cup 🌻
Cleaning your cup is important to maintain the sensory quality of your favourite beverage.
Here is our care guide on how to make the best use of your Gentle Morning Cup.
Firstly, the cup does what it is suppose to do really well!
It keeps your coffee cold or warm for hours
The locking mechanism is smooth and 100% leakproof
It's extremely durable and the liquid rubber coating has great resistant to scratches compared to the usual cheaper powdered coating.
It's an aesthetic white colour which is rare for coffee cup! ( We must admit that it is a really brave design decision to use a white as the main colour scheme for a coffee tumbler. )
Important tips to avoid stains
Coffee is notoriously good at staining items and everybody knows that white is the absolute no-no for most coffee products. However, we believe that with good care and gentle usage, this cup will still be able to look pretty for an extended period of time.
1. Avoid coffee in the exterior of the cup
The white exterior of the cup has a liquid rubber coating which makes for a different experience but is more porous than the typical smooth powdered coating used on the average cup which can cause it to stain more easily.
We have accounted for this by having a stainless steel rim on the cup edges.
Even though it is not common to have coffee in that area, mishaps can happen so please wash away any stains immediately!
Here are some important tips to avoid these kind of permanent stains.
2. Make sure the cup is really leak-proof
Do a water test and tilt the cup in all angles to make sure liquid doesn't seep out. Once you know it is leak-proof, it is unlikely you will spill coffee in the white zone.
Do this again whenever you disassemble or reassemble the cup!
If it's not leakproof, please email us immediately and we will arrange a replacement for you!
3. Inform your barista so they handle your cup with care
Some baristas are very speedy with their service and sometimes the coffee spills and stains your cup unknowingly.
If you see any stains, please make sure to ask them to help you rinse it off immediately.
How to clean your cup!
1. Daily Cleaning:
Rinse after Each Use: Immediately after use, rinse your thermal cup with warm water to remove any coffee or tea residue.
Hand Wash: Use a mild dish soap and warm water to clean the cup. Avoid using abrasive sponges or brushes, as they can scratch the surface. A soft sponge or cloth is ideal.
2. Deep Cleaning for tough stains (Weekly or Bi-weekly):
Have a routine of deep cleaning your cup so you can prevent any stains from building up over time.
Baking Soda: For a deeper clean, make a paste of baking soda and water. Apply it to the inside of the cup, let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub gently with a soft bristle brush ( A toothbrush will work ). Rinse thoroughly.
Vinegar and dishwashing liquid soak: If there are stubborn stains or odors, soak the cup with a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:1 ratio). Let it sit for an hour ( Or longer depending on how severe the stains are ), then wash as usual.
3. Lid Cleaning:
Disassemble: The cup’s lid can be disassembled, do so and clean each part separately to remove any coffee residue and prevent mould growth.
Lightly pinch the top most portion of the lid's sealing mechanism, and then gently tilt the grey locking piece in one direction ( One hand pinching and the other hand tilting the grey locking piece ) to gently release the grey circular locking piece.
Please do not apply too much pressure when pinching as there has been some cases of this part breaking.
You just need to release the lock slightly. Use your index finger to pull up one side of the grey locking piece while the thumb pressing down the other side to create the tilting movement to dislodge the piece easily.
Twist the rotating sealing mechanism to unscrew it from the lid.
To reassemble, simply repeat the steps backwards!
Soak: Soak the lid in warm soapy water for a few minutes, then use a small brush (like an old toothbrush) to clean the crevices and seals if you have stubborn stains and odors.
4. Drying:
Air Dry: After washing, let your cup and lid air dry completely before reassembling. This prevents moisture from getting trapped and causing mold or mildew.
5. General Tips:
Avoid leaving coffee stains for long periods on your cup: coffee is a strong staining agent for any white surface!
Please make sure to wash off any coffee spills immediately with dish soap and periodically use baking soda to remove any stubborn stains from the cup.
Avoid using rough abrasives: We have found that using the green side of your scotch-brite sponge may damage the coating on the interior and exterior of the cup. For tough stains, please use a soft bristle brush with baking soda.
Avoid Dishwasher: The gentle morning cup is not dishwasher safe, always hand wash it to preserve the insulation quality.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Steer clear of bleach or harsh cleaning agents, as they can damage the cup’s material and affect the taste of your beverages.
6. Storage:
Store Unsealed: When not in use, store your cup with the lid off to prevent any musty smells or moisture buildup.
If you are purchasing the cup standalone and you have difficulties with the stains, please let us know by sending us an email to hello@yasumicoffee.com, please note that we will help replace the cups on a case by case basis only as this is not a defect!
